About
I am Dr. Richard Zowalla, a Research Software Engineer and web crawling expert. I thrive on developing solutions for complex data challenges, building scalable systems for web data extraction, information retrieval and big data processing that help organisations and researchers harness the full power of their data.
Over the course of my work I have designed and implemented web crawling architectures, optimised data pipelines, and integrated machine-learning capabilities into data systems, gathering and making sense of content from across the web at scale.
Open source is at the core of how I work. I am an active Member of the Apache Software Foundation and contribute to several projects within the open source community. See the Open Source page for details.
Whether collaborating with development teams, teaching students, contributing to OSS projects or engaging with the wider tech community, my goal is to build solutions that push the boundaries of what is possible in data engineering and web technologies.
